IT´S A DEAL!

07.02.10

To be perfectly honest we encourage all participants to camp on-site for the SCC weekend. The experience of being woken up in the middle of a pine forrest at 08.30 in the morning by a roaring 2,9 liter beast heating the oil before the days first pass, peeking out from your tent and witness a Kübelwagen cruise by 10 feet in front of you is really something else!

Before I get completely carried away, the point is that if you for some strange reason want to wake up in a nice comfortable bed, take a shower, enjoying a cup of Espresso before going to the event, we DO have something for you also. There are more than 50 hotels in the Gardermoen area, and for the past few years SCC have enjoyed a very good hotel deal for the SCC weekend with the Quality Airport Hotel Gardermoen. Please click "Event Info" for booking, open now!

PS. Depot spaces on solid ground are filling up at an alarming rate, be sure to book yours TODAY!!!

HO - HO - HO…

19.12.09

So once again Christmas is upon us. Where did time go? Is seems like only such a short while ago that Gardermoen was bustling with activity and smiles and laughter  filled the grandstands around the concrete drag strip originally built by the German Luftwaffe in 1940…

But time has ended moved on, we´re working hard on planning next years event and we´re as always determined to make it better than last year! We´ll have some cool stuff happening in 2010 for sure!!!

If you couldn´t make it in 2009, we strongly suggest that you order the DVD from the shop. It´s finally finished and is being sent out to hundreds of enthusiasts as we speak. What a great gift to put under the Christmas three!

THANK YOU!
18.08.09

We would like to thank all of our sponsors, volunteers, the amazing Gardermoen Track Crew, Speedy Rescue, Nobel Catering(food), Stein&Mona, Big Balls(band) and most of all YOU, participant of the SCC 2009.
The SCC spirit proved to be alive and well all weekend, despite the rainfall on Saturday. We all got wet and felt the cold, but never despaired and never lost hope. The Slackers Garage threw one hell of a party with DJ´s, dance floor and a big screen showing SCC photos and movies! The Screwdrivers kept the beer tap flowing all weekend and the "Big Balls" AC/DC cover band rocked in the rain!!!
On Sunday the track crew started preparing the track at 04.00 in the morning and against all odds had the track ready for a full day of fabulous racing. The Tor Øyvind Skinne beetle made the fastest pass of the weekend and a new world record for a street driven pan chassis with a 9.01ET. What an outstanding performance!!!
Another Norwegian record was also made on Saturday, for the first time four Schwimmwagens was filmed in the water together. Awesome!!!
Thank you all for coming, awards and race winners will be posted here soon.

Planning for SCC 2010 has begun...

Hope to see you all soon, The SCC crew.

BLUE SKIES!!!
14.08.09

The sky is clear, the sun is shining, THE SCC IS UNDER WAY!!!
Over one hundred cars have arrived and who knows how many people! The SCC Crew is ready to greet you and your friends when arriving Gardermoen. This will be a week to remember. For all of us. Have a safe trip. See you there!

THE SCC. RIGHT NOW!

DON´T LOWER YOUR STANDARDS!
11.08.09!

One of the most hardcore enthusiasts in Norway when it comes to vintage beetles, Morten Lund, wanted to put the statement on the SCC t-shirts “Don’t lower your standards” to the test. But not by un-slamming a standard beetle, he had something else in mind. Some six years ago he “purchased” a untouched original 1957 samba bus with Norwegian history, and arranged all the paperwork. Due to his relatively large collection of VERY old VW’s counting some fifty cars, the time had not come around to collect it yet.
Fortunately for us, he decided that SCC 2009 would be a great place to display the samba for the very first time. There were some minor practical issues to be solved; the bus was parked on the bottom of a mountain lake. 50 feet below the surface!!!
The reason for the somewhat odd choice of parking space back in 1974? A defective transmission!!!
The rescue mission took place in the most scenic surroundings Norway has to offer, and as close to the SCC weekend as possible because Morten wanted to display the bus as “fresh” as possible from the lake!
Involving divers, an enormous mobile crane and a handfull of good friends the bus finally saw the light of day again. We can guarantee you a condition of a vintage car that you have never seen before. And will probably never see again!!!
At SCC you will have the opportunity to judge for yourself, does it pay off to lower your standard or deluxe in to a mountain lake for preservation?
The crazy rescue team leader and owner is a co-organizer of the Vintage Village at SCC, and will be around all weekend to show pictures and tell the story!
This has to be one of the most amazing feats we have ever seen in the European VW community and the SCC crew are MOST humble and proud to present it for your viewing pleasure at the event!!!

ONLY AT THE SCC!

BUSY DAYS - AND NIGHTS!
10.08.09

It´s funny, the day after the update on Stian´s turbo beetle we got a mail from the main sponsor of SCC 2009, CSP in Germany. The CSP Type34 Ghia is also one of the cars that´s seriously gunning for an eight second pass at the SCC...
Last year the Ghia did it´s racing debut at SCC, and everybody who was there could witness the car make a 9,11 pass!
Owner and crew chief Peter Köhmann tells us the whole car has received a major upgrade from last year, the chassis has been updated for even better safety, more weight has been moved to the front of the car, race pack logger is updated, the list is endless... And the car is still in bits and pieces as we speak!!!
After driving the SFI inspector back to the airport Peter picked up longtime friend and driver of the Ghia, Ron Lummus of RLR Racing in California who´s helping putting the car back together. Like in hundreds of workshops around Europe, the CSP crew is also burning the midnight oil to get a well prepared car to the SCC!

ANOTHER EIGHT AT SCC???

A TIGHT FIT!
08.08.09

Stian "Tekken" Abell Larsen from Gjøvik, Norway has become somewhat of a household name in large parts of Europe during the last couple of years.
Always being into VW´s but keeping his competition focus on fast Go Carts he thought he might give drag racing a go about three years ago. An abandoned Swedish race project was bought, then finished with a turbo´d engine from Staggs Racing in California
Before you knew it, Stian was pulling down the old "Norway's Fastest Beetle" record over and over again!!! The latest run at Gardermoen last weekend was yet another Norwegian record, 9.06/230km/h! A low top speed you might say? That´s because he blew a hole in one of the head at about 350 meters, shut off and coasted past the finish line!
Needless to say, the "8" is within reach! Stian and his faithful team is working hard and long nights to get the engine rebuilt before the SCC, and judging by the size of team member Torleif´s hammer it will be ready! Is it the shadow of doubt we see in girlfriend Barbro´s face? Or just the strain from tightening the loading strap???

THE FIRST EIGHT EVER AT SCC?

CAUGHT IN THE MIDDLE!
07.08.09

Few people in the Norwegian VW community stands up for his car like Espen Glesne from the city of Drammen. Surrounded by the Cal-Look crowd on one side and the vintage buffs on the other, comments and well meant advice were not far away when he purchased his 1968 L620 Savannah Beige a few years ago.
Almost daily since the purchase he has been the victim of friendly "persuasion" from both camps. Fuchs, IDA's and a lowered front end as the obvious choice for the lookers, getting rid of the whole car and buying a split or oval window as the only choice of his other "good friends"!!!
Despite this constant bullying he has stuck with his original car and changed every little detail back to strict factory specs. The proudest stock 1968 Type 1 owner in norway is also the man behind the SCC line of coffe mugs, and is rumored to have something to do with the amazing Show and Shine awards this year as well. It takes some guts not to go with the flow!
When his friends are wrenching in the garage on a broken racing transmission or they are troubleshooting their six volts electrics, Espen packs up the family in his "sixtyeight" and goes for a Sunday cruise. Like the gentleman he is, he seldom comments on others misery... He just drives his car!
Come over and say hi at the fabulous Vintage Village area next weekend!!!

SOME THINGS NEVER GO OUT OF STYLE!

TO THE HOSPITAL - AND MAKE IT QUICK!
06.08.09

Jørn Tangen from Drammen, Norway is a seasoned SCC veteran. Last year he showed up in his flawless WBX turbo powered Type 3 Squareback. Not the most obvious choice for a fast VW you might say? Well then, check out his latest creation...
This 1963 Type 2 ambulance started out transporting the sick to a nearby hospital powered by the ever so reliable 34hp Type 1 engine. Today there´s a fair chance it´ll reach the emergency room a little sooner...
Featuring a complete Type 3 IRS rear end, extensively lightened body, Porsche brakes and 17" wheels, aluminum floors, custom gear linkage, custom electrics, the list is simply too long to publish here. And then there´s of course the original functioning emergency lights and sirens! Oh, and the engine?A WBX turbo of course! Horsepower? Well, we honestly don´t know but his Squareback dynoed 344hp at JPM´s dyno last year. And that´s NOT his "racecar"!!!
Built for both circle track and drag racing this will be something else. We can´t wait to see it finished at the SCC!

MEDIC!!!

FANCY GOING FOR A SCHWIM AT SCC?
05.08.09

We told you the SCC is all about the fabulous diversity in the vintage VW hobby. Well, these cars were made for swimming, and that’s just what they’ll do at SCC!
Rumors have it that many of you didn’t get to see the three Schwimwagens taking a bath at SCC in 2008. Well, here is your second chance. And who knows how many we’re able to gather this year...
12 o’clock on Saturday we’ll head for the Hurdalssjøen lake once again, and everyone is of course welcome to join in and witness this rare event. These drivers are not afraid of getting their cars dirty - or wet! Even the freshly restored cars went for a bath last year, and we´re pretty sure they´re waiting to do it all over again!!!

BRING YOUR SHORTS AND BEACH TOWELS!

PRE SCC DYNO DAY!
02.08.09

Andersen Racing and Anders Ringstad held a pre SCC dyno day Saturday 1st of August! Entries included both small and big cc type 1 engines and some big stroker type 4´s, installed in both beetles and busses! And what a GREAT day!!! Sun was shining, burgers being flipped, coffee served to the early visitors, all in all a fabulous experience!
Each car got more than enough time on the dyno to get the engine dialled in, one participant described the dyno session as "The easiest and cheapest horepower I ever got!" Anders Ringstad is a seasoned veteran in engine building and tuning having everything from HiPo Hemis, Opels and VW´s to a Ford GT40 on his customer list.
Of course, every single participant today will show and race their cars at SCC! Looking forward too see you there guys!!!

WELL DONE RACERS!

A CONSPIRACY - NOT A CLUB!
31.07.09

Volkswagen clubs are arriving in great numbers this year, inspired by the great club stands of amongst many others the Screwdrivers and DKL´s of last year. One of these clubs are Der Brückenrenners of Öland, Sweden. These guys have been visiting the SCC since the very early years and you can always count on them to bring some great cars - AND a great party!
The club name hails from the 6 kilometer "Ölandsbridge" that connects the island Öland with mainland Sweden since 1972, Sweden´s longest bridge.
The Club main focus is Cal-Look cars with hot engines, and club members are as always waiting patiently for the chance to go to the SCC to sample the ever so sticky Gardermoen track, always ready for a new personal best! Founded in 1992, the club counting 15 members has always had a strict focus on quality, not quantity - just like the SCC! The SCC crew looks forward too seeing you there. As always!!!

WELCOME BRÜCKENRENNERS!

THE "STING" IS COMING!
29.07.09

Well, just to make it clear right away, this is NOT some kind of Ghia that never went past the prototype stadium, it is indeed - a Fiat! So, what´s a Fiat doing attending the SCC you might ask??? Well, it fits in by the SCC rules that are that cars attending have to either been modified to accept a aircooled engine, or was delivered originally from VW with a aircooled VW engine and since been modified to use a different engine setup. By now you´ve probably guessed that this car fits in the first category!
Right, with that out of the way lets see what this is all about.
The car itself is a 1967 Fiat 850 Spyder, owned and driven by Jo Clifford from Essex, UK, member of the Outlaw Flat Four Drag Racing Club. It was originally built and converted to VW power by a gentleman named Rudy Inamotto of Competition motors in El Paso, Texas. And it was done in the early 70´s when such conversions were popular for running the drag strips in the US!
Maybe the most famous of these Fiat´s today is the Race Shop Fiat, built by EMPI´s Darrel Vittone. This car actually has some parts from the very same car since the Race Shop Fiat was more or less constantly upgraded! Jo´s Fiat features a type 1 engine and IRS transmission using Datsun 240Z axles and VW 4-bolt brakes with original DDS lightweight race wheels! Front suspension sports a drop tube front axle with P&S spindles and spindle mount wheels. The aluminium interior is hand fabricated and some of it are parts that originally was in the Race Shop Fiat.
As a real historic piece we are thrilled that the car is making the trip all the way from the UK to Gardermoen! And it´s no slug either! It was tested at the Mopar Euronationals at Santa Pod Raceway last weekend to make sure it´s in fighting shape before SCC and ran a 12.21ET, a new personal best for Jo! And who know´s, maybe it´s time for another PB in August?

CARE TO MATCH RACE A FIAT?

WELCOME TO THE CLUB!
27.07.09

Adding his car to the fabulous row of split window beetle´s attending SCC this year is Søren Rasmussen from Denmark. This car was found a couple of years ago deep in the forests of northern Sweden. And we do mean INSIDE the actual forest!!!
The car has since been brought up to a very high technical standard and converted to a serious racer. Specs include IRS rear suspension, raised transmission, JCL shifter, 8" Angora beam, complete Chromoly roll cage from TSSracecars.dk, Kirkey seat, rack and pinion steering setup and a bit more than the original 1200cc 25hp powerplant! Oh, and let´s not forget the original 4,5 and 6" Fuchs wheels!
The car has of course been properly welded up, but Søren felt that it would be nice to keep the fabulous patina that only time can make...
The "Racesplit" is making it´s debut at the SCC 2009 and we can´t wait to see it there!!!

WELCOME RACE FANS!

DER WIGER COUPÉ!
26.07.09

What´s this then??? Well, you see, the original plan for VW´s model programme was to have a hard top four seater(the beetle), a four seater convertible(the Karmann) and a 2+2 seater convertible(the Hebmüller). What about the last one - the 2+2 seater coupé? Well as some of you know the Hebmüller factory had a catastrophic fire in 1949 and went bankrupt in the early 50´s. So there went the official plans for a original VW beetle coupé.
Fast forward some 45 years, SCC speaker Øystein "Austin" Asphjell got the idea that it would be cool to build such a car. Not as an "original", not a custom or Hot Rod but as a tribute to coach building, a craft that became almost extinct in Europe during the late 60´s. Like if someone had delivered a new VW to a coach builder back in ´52 together with a Hebmüller brochure and told them to make something out of it!
Over the years parts have been gathered, carefully so that no newer parts would be used and spoil the illusion that the car could have been built in the eary 50´s...
A may ´52 beetle that had been rather heavily modernized in the 60´s with a ´58 roof section, bumpers, tail lights etc. was sourced. Being remarkably rust free and complete it became the main basis for the project. Some reproduction Hebmüller parts was sourced from a VERY limited run in Germany, others have been gathered trough out the years waiting patiently in Øystein´s barn...
Now the project was only waiting for the right man to do the extensive bodywork required.
Enter Thomas Tørjesen of Salinas Boys Customs, California and Discovery Channels "Biker Build-Off" fame moved home to Norway, abandoning his Hot Rod and Chopper building career in the USA. Thomas now runs a company called Norwegian Hammerworks in Fredrikstad and specialises in advanced metal shaping, body making and repairs.
He accepted the challenge, making all the fabrication with his trademark old school tools and methods. Having been into vw´s many years before he turned to Hot Rods and the U.S. he proved to be the right man for the job!!!
Der Wiger Coupé was premiered at Hessisch Oldendorf in Germany just three weeks ago and will make it´s next appearance at the SCC in the Vintage Lounge!

WELCOME VINTAGE FANS!

IN THE NEED FOR SPEED?
22.07.09

The SCC is proud to welcome UK sponsors Prowagen! Prowagen is a fairly new dealer to the scene, mostly concentrating on the parts that makes your VW go fast. But they also carry other cool parts like the awesome looking "streamliner" style roof racks from Vintage Speed! They are dealers and stock items from well known and loved brands like Remmele, Gene Berg, Center Line, Jaycee and Ron Lummus Racing!
The boys have been touring Europe extensively this summer with their sales stand and the SCC crew last caught up with them at the European Bug-In to sample some of their goods! Be sure to check out their blog http://prowagenper4mance.blogspot.com/ and stop by their tent at SCC!!!

WELCOME PROWAGEN!

OLD MEETS NEW...
20.07.09

Marius Melstrøm of Bekkelagsmafiaen VW Club fame had an idea... How about a Kdf? Sure, the very letters can warm a true vintage fan´s heart! But what about a replica, built from a split window? Cool! How about putting it on airbags? WHAT????
This is a true unique build. No expense has been spared and the sheet metal work is mindboggling. Both the attention to correct details and the workmanship is truly amazing. Comes as no surprise then that Marius´s trade is working at a Mercedes bodyshop then...
This will truly be a unique car when it is finished and we´re really looking forward too seeing it live. The debut will be... Well you´ve already guessed, haven´t you? THE SCC!!!!

SCC - IT TAKES ALL KINDS!

BBT IS COMING TO SCC!
17.07.09

We are proud to announce that our sponsor BBT of Belgium have booked their trip to this years SCC! BBT is one of Europe´s main importer/exporter of both parts and cars, this year amongst many other things sporting their own line of wheels, including a steel/chrome wide-5 Sprintstar replica!!!
BBT Owner Bob Van Heyst has an extensive collection of some of the rarest VW´s and coach built´s and is also the creator/owner of the famous TeüfelHeb, the only Hebmüller gasser in the world??? And of course it´s coming to SCC!!!
BBT is also a Flat-4 distributor with roots deep into the Flat-4 HQ... Maybe that´s how they have pulled off bringing the Inch Pincher TOO! replica gasser to SCC??? It doesn´t end there, Nao Fujita of Flat-4 and DKPIII fame is also flying in from Japan to join in on the SCC fun this time!!!! And rumours are perhaps even Mr. Takashi Komori, founder/owner of Flat-4 Japan will find his way there also...
Adding this to the already extensive lineup of cars who will make their way to Gardermoen Raceway, this will truly be a sight to behold!

SCC - FAIRY TALE FOUNDRY!

THE EUROPEAN BUG-IN ROCKS!
15.07.09

The SCC team is finally all home from what would turn out to be a over 4000km trip to the European Bug-In #3! And what a weekend it was! People from all over the world once again gathered in the small countryside town of Chimay, Belgium for what has to be one of the worlds BEST VW shows! The impressions are almost overwhelming! Fast street and drag cars, pre 50´s vw´s, A beetle with Dick Landy blower, a number of turbo´d cars, some of the finest cal-look cars you will ever see, the extended pickup and matching dragster from the Otto Bros, the Gasser Garage lineup and the EMPI Inch Pincher Too courtesy of Flat-4 Japan! And in the middle of it all the SCC "Berserk" race team. Driver Jøran Larssen managed to set not one but three personal bests over the weekend ending up with a very respectable 11,41 ET!
The SCC bus acted as a combined tool carrier/towcar all weekend and had the time of it´s life! The SCC crew enjoyed the weekend no less with only minor adjustments and modifications to be made to the "Berserk" racecar. And only one to the bus. The Hurst lookalike shifter gave up on Saturday, soon to be replaced by a new CSP shifter. Boy what a difference! We recommend any bus owner with a failing shifter to check them out!
Post-EBI gave way to a week of many different experiences, ranging from visiting some of the many tourist attractions around Chimay, going to BBT in Antwerp for a guided tour of the company and Bob Van Heyst´s private collection, hanging out in Brussels with some of the DAS club/EBI team members. And finally visiting the CSP headquarters in Bargteheide just outside Hamburg, Germany.
We would like to thank all of our friends and sponsors who have contributed to making this a trip to remember for the rest of our lives!

SEE ALL OF YOU IN CHIMAY 2011!!!

WE`RE ON A MISSON FROM GOD.

30.06.2009

So it´s that time of the year again... Birds are singing, people are happy but drowsy from the blistering heat that has hit southern Norway from the past week. And there´s of course a little VW show in a small town in Belgium near the French border: THE EUROPEAN BUG-IN #3!!!!
The SCC bus is packed and ready with it´s new two litre IDA engine, the SCC "Berserk" racecar is ready on the trailer for it´s premiere on the Chimay racetrack and the SCC crew is tipping on their toes to set out for the 3200 kilometer round trip!!!

SCC GOES TO FINLAND!
26.06.09

What a weekend!!! The SCC crew went in full strength to our neighbouring country last weekend. And what a weekend it was!! We started off going to the Arabia Slugs Dyno Day were we enjoyed a couple of beers and some nice food from the barbeque.
Then after stopping for coffee at Kai´s place we went on to Kiikala Airfield on friday evening for.. well MORE beers and barbeque!!!
On Saturday WVOpen officially opened. This is a drag race event put on by the winner of the NA/Street tyre class at SCC last year, Juhani "Jussi" Juränkö. The day brought lots of track action even if the weather was not the best. The show must go on! Oh, and in the afternoon the sun came out! After packing up the SCC bus we went on to our host´s summer house located deep in the Finnish woods. Beer, barbeque and Sauna all evening!! What a great experience! On Sunday we went to a track day watching a four hour endurance race with only aircooled vw´s. We´ve never seen anything like it. The perfect ending to a perfect weekend! We would like to thank all who made the weekend so special for us by making us feel right at home. Especially our GREAT hosts Tomi and Jaakko!!! See you there next year!

SCC INTRODUCES NEW MAIN SPONSOR FOR 2009!

26.04.09

The planning for this years event is coming along nicely. After all, SCC is only a little over 3 months away!
We have now struck a deal with German parts supplier and manufacturer CSP for the main sponsorship for 2009. We are extremely happy with this arrangement as we feel one of the important things SCC and CSP have in common is that we always strive for quality, not quantity! CSP is one of the companies that has really put something back into the VW scene, sponsoring numerous important events like the US Bug-In, European Bug-In, Maikäfertreffen, and now of course SCC.
CSP is expanding their ever growing line of quality German made parts with several exiting new products, some of them could be seen at the Volksworld show in april. A few will also find their way to the SCC bus´s new engine! Watch this space! Be sure to check out their brand new website http://www.csp-shop.de !

SCC - QUALITY , NOT QUANTITY!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

31.12.08

As I write this, the old year is coming to an end... 2008 was a year that gave us lots of stuff, record high(and low!) gas prices, the credit crunch but also an amazing Volkswagen show season! Lots and lots of events all over the world was visited by the SCC crew in 2008, ranging from The Volksworld Show in the UK, Bug-Run in Sweden, Bug-In in California, DFL´s´10 year anniversary and Das Drag Day in Germany, European Bug-In in Belgium, not to mention many many other shows and events in Sweden and of course Norway! 2008 was also a very special year for SCC, as it will be remembered as the event that put Norway on the map in the international VW community. SCC took the big leap from being a relatively small event mostly for the local crowd to having visitors from all over Europe and even the US! Sporting both a record in fast drag racing cars on the starting line as well as one in having the largest gathering of war-time VW´s in one place! Needless to say, we in the SCC crew are both humble and honored by the number of people that chose to take the trip!!!
2009 is already in the works and we are sure that it will make an even greater event! We could have chosen the usual "fireworks" picture for this update, but instead here´s´a picture of two of our favorite "Rockets": The "Screaming Mouse" from JPM and CSP´s Type34 Ghia, what a great pair!! Take care, see you in the new year!

SCC - Where VW friends have VW fun!

BASED ON A TRUE STORY:

18.12.08

The moment we´ve all been waiting for is here: The arrival of the SCC 2008 DVD!!! Kurt Källström and Rivstart Productions have made their best release yet with the 2-disc edition of Scandinavia´s coolest aircooled event! Everything´s there, the outstanding race action, the BBQ party, the vintage lounge, the show & shine, not to mention interviews with people from all over Europe capturing that very special SCC spirit!!!

The first disc follows the SCC from the setup on friday morning with showcars, Kübelwagens and racers pouring though the gates and the Friday Night Screwdrivers T-BBQ in the evening, the racing action starting saturday morning lasting all day long until there´s time for... another party of course!!! All of it spiced up with lots and lots of interviews!

The Bonus Disc contains a 30 minute "Vintage Special" with interviews with the owner and drivers of some of the rarest VW´s you will ever find in Europe! We´re talking Schwimmwagens, Barndoor buses, Hebmüllers and more!

There´s also a follow up on some of the racers who worked trough the night to repair their broken cars and their comeback on Sunday! In addition to a large number of personal bests we might even see a couple of records...

The best part? A total runtime of over 2,5 hours! No, scratch that - The BEST part is that you can buy it RIGHT HERE!

SCC: YOU´RE IN THE MOVIES!
